The Kamouraska cradle is where the Ancestor of the Kirouac families was buried.
To permanently and significantly commemorate the location where the first Kirouac in New-France was buried on 6 March 1736, the descendants of Maurice Louis Le Brice de Keroack placed a memorial plaque in the chapel at the Kamouraska Cradle. This particular site, the first civil and religious centre in Kamouraska, is located about two kilometres east (1 1/4 mile) of the actual village.
The memorial plaque was unveiled at L’Islet-sur-Mer on 17 August 1980, by Geneviève Kirouac (GFK 00517*), daughter of Jean-Guy Kirouac, one of the founding members of the Kirouac Family Association, during the very first gathering of the Kirouac Families, on 17 August 1980. The plaque was designed and scupted in Quebec pink granit, and was later placed at the Kamouraska Cradle.

Twenty-six years later, a new memorial plaque in honour of the ancestor, was unveiled by the Kirouac Family Association, to honour the Ancestor. On 5 August 2006, a new ceremony was held to unveil a second memorial plaque at the Kamouraska Cradle.
Three people were called upon to lift the Breton flag and the Quebec flag that covered the monument bearing the second plaque: Alexandre Kirouac (son of Laurent Kirouac GFK 01979*), Jacques Kirouac (GFK 02298*) and Clément Kirouac (GFK 00800*).
Inscription on the plaque reads:
On 6 March 1736, Urbain-François Le Bihan was buried under the name Alexandre Kéloaque. Born in Huelgoat in Brittany, he is the ancestor of all the Keroack, Kerouac and Kirouac of North America. Born into a family of notaries, he immigrated to New-France between 1721 and 1726 and he was a fur trader.
In 1732, under the name of Maurice Louis Le Brice de Kervoach he married Louise Bernier from Cap-Saint-Ignace.
