JACK KEROUAC AND MARIE-VICTORIN OBSERVATORIES

Organizations sponsored by the Association des Familles Kirouac inc. responsible for ensuring the collection and dissemination of specific or general information relating to Conrad Kirouac, also known by his religious name of Brother Marie-Victorin, f.é.c. and that relating to Jack Kerouac, Franco-American author of the now famous book On The Road.

These two observatories are organizations dependent on the Association des Familles Kirouac inc. having as objectives:

- To collect and/or list information concerning them to facilitate access and circulation;

- Identify and document places and events related to their history and their respective work;

- Collaborate with the organizations concerned for the organization of events dedicated to them;

- Ensure follow-up and feed media coverage;

- Respond, as far as possible, to the information needs concerning them;

- To produce and/or collaborate in the production and/or dissemination of informative material and relevant literary or audiovisual works concerning them.

Since their creation in 2008, these organizations have been chaired by Ms. Lucie Jasmin (Marie-Victorin Observatory) and Mr. Éric Waddell (Jack Kerouac Observatory).

CONFERENCE SERVICE

If organizations were interested in presenting a conference on Brother Marie-Victorin, the head of the Marie-Victorin Observatory, Mrs. Lucie Jasmin, presents Brother Marie-Victorin (Conrad Kirouac 1885-1944) and the Odyssey of Flora Laurentian.

Synopsis: In 1904, Brother Marie-Victorin, accompanied by his learned friend, Brother Rolland-Germain, will undertake this extraordinary journey to the heart of his beloved Laurentia. This is to carry out the inventory of the nation's plants. This journey, which has become legendary, was accomplished under the auspices of knowledge, but still under the influence of a certain poetic turn of mind. This talk, embellished with light projections, will allow you to get to know the man better… Marie-Victorin and the great work to which he devoted more than twenty-five years of his life.

It will also help you discover why La Flore laurentienne, this major work by Conrad Kirouac, is considered a book of capital importance in the history of Quebec. This publication is certainly no stranger to the fact that Brother Marie-Victorin is now considered one of the most outstanding personalities of the 20th century.

To request the holding of this conference, please send us your contact details by email (see the Join us tab).

Mrs. Lucie Jasmin is a professional researcher, but also one of Brother Marie-Victorin's greatest admirers. In 2004, in collaboration with Gilles Beaudet (f.é.c.), she established and annotated the edition of the full text of Mon Miroir – Journals Intimes 1903-1920 - Frère Marie-Victorin (FIDES). With a master's degree in musicology, she has also composed music for film, radio and television.
